Horror Stories

I am not sure what it is that compels people to roll the dice with this engine? Ford and IH spent millions beating each other up in court to see who was going to covering the warranty costs. Some would call that a clue, suggesting that there most be substantial issues with that motor. There are countless threads on countless diesel forums which talk about them (80% negative I would guess). There are options in the same year from the other two that don't have near the issues or if you like Ford get a 6.7 or back down to a 7.3. The issues they say can be fixed with enough parts and money, but why subject yourself to that kind of $ layout and potential disruption on the highway. It equates to putting lipstick on pig, you can dress it up, fix the design issues, but it is still the same pig. Worse yet, after dumping the money into them, they simply don't resale. Some do seem to run, but the book has already been written on this boat anchor.
