Atwood Model XT have a 'mixing valve' located on backside of WH Tank.
Cold water connects to it and mixes with the very hot water coming out of WH .....preset at factory and sealed for 130*F output. Use a 160*F t-stat for heating control so 6 gal tank has the 'equivalent' of 10 gal (10 gal=16 gal)
All other Atwood models are 140*F output and you temper with cold at the end source (faucet/shower)----no mixing valve
Same with Suburban Models
Thermal valves are readily availble at Home Depot, Lowes, ACE, Plumbing Supply etc.
A little PEX, some fittings YOU could install one on WH hot out and set output temp for desired temp.
Course the mixing valves are prone to clogging if water supply source is HARD and then you have to remove, clean or replace.
Biggest/common complaint with the Atwood XT Models that use the mixing valve
Atwood does have a Optional replacement 'adjustable' t-stat (110*F-150*F) #93105
Atwood also has an Optional 130*F t-stat #91470
Suburban also has an Optional 140*F (130*F Standard) #232317 for 120V AC electric and #232319 for 12V DC propane
