Hot water question

OK:
So DW wants the hot water to be alittle hotter....I have a Flagstaff microlite with a 6 gal. suburban hot water tank, I run it on elec/gas at the same time. the water needs to be hotter how can I do this??????????????
  • Since most RV water heaters have a thermostat that my be 140f and this is much hotter than typical residential scald values, the adjustable thermostats lower the hot water temperature.

I would suggest that you measure the hot water temp at the shower and if it is below 130f, there is probably something else amiss, as others have mentioned.
  • I would look for other reasons why the water heater temperature output is not so hot that you cannot stand it.
It is possible that the ECO is opening and shutting off unit or even the thermostat itself is not working properly.
Replacement set of ECO and thermostat is around $15-$20.
here is link to an adjustable thermostat for Atwood water heater.

  • My wife complained the water was too hot. Couldn't find a way to adjust it, so my Dad (older, wiser, camping longer) insisted he would show me how to adjust it, just as he was able to on all the trailers he previously owned. Nope, he could not find a thermostat either.

Come to find out.....they make them with a set tempature (HOT), so you add cold---thus minimizing the usage of limited availability of HOT water.

Have you check the burner???? Can it be clogged, limiting the amount of gas burning? Not getting to that set HOT temperature?

What is the tempature of the hot water at the tap?

What about an outside shower or other outside water valve? Is it closed at the diverter, not the shower head? Could be mixing cold with hot...
  • Water heaters have a non-adjustable thermostat. It is possible, but not likely, that it is bad. If you feel the plumbing, as close as possible where it is attached to the heater, is it hot there?

What year is your camper? Is there some new safety thing?

Our 2003 TT water heater gets the water dangerously hot. You can make tea with it.

    (prichardson beat me!)
  • How old is your rig? Some of the newer ones have a mixing valve at the plumbing connections. This may or may not be adjustable. Most of the others are non adjustable but provide water that is quite hot. Running on gas & electric together will not change the maximum temperature as both thermostats are set the same.
  • no adjustment can be made on most, I would look for bypass valve open some where
  • Running on elec/gas (propane) at the same time is a new option. Ours is one or the other and running on straight propane is much hotter.
  • Ok. I don't actually know if you can adjust it, somebody will be along to help out with that... I have to ask: how hot is it getting now? I can't stand mine without mixing in cold water even for a couple of seconds. I just have to wonder to myself if you have a partially open bypass valve in your system allowing cold water to mix in before it reaches your sink/tub/shower?
