Hot water issue

Used our rv 3 weeks ago no issue. This weekend we take a trip and the hot water is not coming out of the faucets or shower. The heater is working and tank is getting hot. I drained the tank today and also blew some compressed air in the tank through the drain plug. I did crack the relief valve first to make sure the tank was filled with hot water only enough to feel warm water coming out. It like there is blockage in the tank or connection coming out of the tank. Any thoughts on what the issue is?

Thanks for all the help in advance.
  • Hot water outlet on WH Tank (top connection) most likely has a check valve in it (unless you have a hot out shutoff valve)

That check valve is a cheap plastic plunger/spring/o-ring assembly and when they fail (clog up from calcium/scale or o-ring gets dislodged) no hot water flows out of WH Tank
  • Bad check valve at the tank?

Used for winterizing bypass instead of multiple valves.

Maybe someone will come along soon who knows more about it ;)
  • If you have an out side shower see if the hot water is turned on. On some motor homes if it is turned on it will not alow the hot water in side the coach to come on. Had it happen to me.
  • I was thinking I could be a check valve I did take the plastic line off the top of tank when it was drained and saw a compression fitting looking thing there. Are all rv check valves they same? And is that the piece at the top outlet of the tank?
    Thanks
  • I've been having water heater issues as well. There is almost no pressure from hot water, barely a dribble. I have the three valves in the correct position, bypass is closed, cold in to heater is open, hot out is open. I didn't have this problem after last winter, so something must be clogged or broken. Where is the check valve some have mentioned?
  • I had the same problem, but I don't have a check valve (that I'm aware of). My problem was the "mixing valve". That mixing valve was clogged with mineral deposits from long periods of time in hard water locations like the Southwest.
  • Or, same problem as we've had twice. Hot water mixing valve. Just replaced ours for the same reason weeks ago.
  • Mixing valve........Used only by Atwood on their XT Series water heaters.
Located on backside of WH TANK directly at hot out with a line coming from cold water to it.
Clog up with crud/scale from hard water.
Remove and soak in CLR or replace (Atwood OEM $160/Honeywell etc thermal valve $90 at hardware stores.

    Check valves.....
Cheap plastic plunger/spring/o-ring assembly inside nipple screwed into hot out of WH Tank (hot water line connects to it)

Usually check valves used in-place of shut off valves BUT some RV MFG will install them and a shutoff valve.

If you have 3 shut off valves.check valve not needed.
