How do you level?

I am self taught...my method may. It be the best, so I am curious how you all tell you rig is level?
I have seen the bubble indicators you attach to the sides..which I may get. In the meantime, how do YOU tell your level?

  • I keep a little torpedo level in my set up tote. when I get to the site I open the front compartment door, pull out the tote, pull out the level, put it on the floor of the compartment and see if it is level side to side and front to back, then adjust accordingly.
    Have fun!
  • For front-to-rear, I open the trailer door to 90 degrees and see which way it swings. For side-to-side, I keep a short carpenter's level in a kitchen drawer. Depending on how it reads, I use one or two 2x12 boards kept in the pick-up truck bed. If I'm already parked where I want to be, it means pulling forward four feet to put the board(s) in position the then backing onto the boards. If is the curb side that has to be raised, then the bottom step may be too high for DW's liking. In that case, I use a third 2x12 board and an assortment of other boards (2x12, 4x4) which can be placed underneath to serve as a first step.

X2 I carry a 4' level put it on the floor and measure then boards under the wheels as needed then front to back I always tip just a little bit to the drivers side and to the back so the ac drains away from the door side of the camper.

I have been using this for about 3 years now. Once you calibrate it, you can get your side to side and front to back all from one point. Rotate the clear face plate, and it will show you what side needs to come up and indicate the inches of rise it needs. It's all you need.
  • I back up on blocks of 2 x 12 that I bring with me. First I look at the ground to get a idea where its low. I do use the bubble thingies. Or I have used a 2' level going front to back and side to side. The bubble things that screw to the side are a lot better, saves a lot of running around. Walmart has them for 10 bucks or so
