Maybe but when I had Firestone 19.5 tires carrying my Northstar they were rated at 70 mph top speed. I certainly went over 70 on occasion but tried to keep my cruising speed down around 65 especially on hot days with a full load.

I can easily drive 300 miles on a tank with TC. Even if I drove only 10 MPH faster than you, I’d pick up 10 minutes an hour on you. One stop doesn’t typically take me 10 minutes total, but if i drove 4 hours, I’d pick up 40 minutes. For sure, my stop wouldn’t take 40 minutes.

It’s why people can pass slower vehicles multiple times even stopping to eat. Also, not too many people regularly drive over 300 miles in a stretch, if it takes you 4 hours or 5 hours, there is still only one stop to fill up. Sure, you might save a minute or two by putting less fuel in, but you won’t make up 40 minutes.

Other than being out West, I don’t really care to drive much over 200 miles at a stretch. In that case, if I drove 10 mph faster, I’d still pick up plenty of time to cover the stop since it would be around 30 minutes compared to driving 10 mph slower.

That being said, you will use more fuel if you choose to go faster … no doubt. That matters to some people and not others.

I don’t typically drive over the speed limit 8-9 with my TC. Ok if you do.

If we are talking fast bikes or fast cars, that’s a completely different scenario. :D

We cruise at 65. 42 states so far without accidents.

On a trip last year on I80 from Omaha west I was passed four times in one day by an F150 and TT probably going 80 mph. I usually drive 62 to 65. When we got to the RV park for the night. The F150 was just finishing his check in.
Drive whatever speed your comfortable at.

It makes a difference to me. My next trip is planned for about 15k miles. Fuel costs will be close to $4000 at current prices. Cutting back a bit on speed can easily save me 20% or $800. That is in addition to a safer, less stressful trip. Of course I will spent more time driving, but probably not by much. Less stressful driving and better fuel economy means fewer rest stops and fewer fuel stops.
