For the amount you want spend, you may be able buy an "off lease" truck that is only three old and still has a warranty. The original buyer took the biggest depreciation hit and you can find deals. The above advise to look for signs of heavy use is still applicable, but many leases wrap service in with the contract and that will help you follow the maintenance trail.
