How much damage ....

Water leak from grey tank (or connection) into underbelly. It was not an overflow through the floor and there are not any soft spots in the floor.

Question is how much damage can this cause? Are there barriers (linings) that help trap moisture outside? Basically if I can financially show I unload this TT and purchase another unit?

I would certainly check out the leak, it will need to be fixed. As far as damage, I'm sure many campers get water intrusion in the enclosed belly, from towing in heavy rain.

My FW has a insulated belly, but uses a bubble wrap type, with foil heat reflect. I don't think water would damage it, but I would not leave water in there.

If you like the trailer, I would not be in a hurry to dump it, but would fix the problem asap.

Mine gets water in there after driving in a heavy rain, a few cups drained out when I tilted the trailer to adjust the brakes.

It was suggested to drill a few 1/4" holes through the plastic underlayer and bubble wrap at all low points so that it drains. Just make sure you don't drill through any tanks. Haven't done that yet but it's on my list.
  • Kinda like a treasure hunt.......don't really know until you look/find leak.

That means removing some underbelly....at least one section.

IF you know what is causing leak you can cut a three sided window in underbelly.

But when unknown.best to remove a section and investigate.

Water damage can be extensive.......wood rot, mold/mildew
OR minimal.....wet spot that drys out.
    Gotta look to know.
  • I had water in the area under my slide. I cut a couple holes in the fabric that covered the bottom of slide and pulled out the fiberglass insulation. I dried the wet area with the exhaust gas from my shop vac. Then, put some new insulation in the space and covered the hole with duct tape. That was five years ago and the everything is still functioning normal in that area.

  • That's one of the problems with enclosed under bellies. You won't know the extent of the damage until you remove the bottom to where you can see the problem and damage.

I prefer one without the enclosed belly for that reason.
