How much propane does the furnace use?

If on shore power batt consumption is no problem as the conv will take care of that.

I go camping a lot in March in the mountains of WV. Frosty nights and warm enough to fish in the daytime (most days anyway.)

I keep the furnace down around 60 , depending on how cold it is outside, when I'm there and not in bed. I turn the thermostat all the way down, 50 or 55, when I go to bed or I'm leaving for a while.

I'm off the grid, so water heater and fridge are also using some propane.

I get about 2 weeks out of one 30-pound tank.

When the temps got down to single digits we burned 3 gallons a day. We have two 40 lb tanks (9.4 gal each). Our Excel is supposedly good at temps of -10 degrees. We use electric for above 30 degree temps because we don't have to worry about basement stuff at those temps. Can't use both electric and furnace because the furnace thermostat won't cut on with electric heat running. I have a small electric heater in the basement (1000 watts) but I felt like it wasn't enough in single digit temps so we run the furnace to insure basement stays above freezing. Excel won't guarantee the -10 degree unless the furnace is used at subzero temps.

First if you are using the trailer you are using your battery. The only time you got to worry about you battery is if you leave it in your rig for long periods of time at really cold temps not doing anything. Think of your car battery sitting in your driveway for couple of days or even a week or two doing nothing and it is fine. As far as heat the electric heaters are the way to go if hooked to shore power and it is not extremely cold out. Now if the temps get really cold then you best turn up the furnace or you will have frozen pipes in the morning. The furnace also blows some warm air into your under belly to keep pipes, tanks and even your water pump from freezing. Now that is mainly 5ers & MH's since TT's have most of their stuff inside the TT under beds and couches.

I leave the battery (fully charged) in my seasonal trailer in temps as low as -40 without any problem. If the battery is dead it will freeze.

Well I can tell you on my Elk hunts in October I usually run the heater on a comfy setting at night and either turn it all the way down in the day or off depending on the planned days hunts, and I usually get to tank 2 on day number 8-9 and I just have the small 20 gallon tanks and am heating a Skyline weekender that is 20 ft. 3 days you should have no porblems. Make sure both are filled as better to have to much ten to little.

and the evening temps are usually in the teens and have gotten as low as 0

I burned through 20lb tank in one 34 degree night with a 12ft popup (24ft monster tent with slideout).

Long story short..one 30# tank should last you around 4-5 days..

Generally, that's my rule. No matter how much gas a furnace burns, I would prefer to use THEIR electric than MY propane.
