How much torque on lug nuts

How tight to I torque a 13/16 lug nut on a 5/8 bolt for my steel wheels.

  • I looked in the bag of manuals and there was nothing for the frame. This is a used TT. In fact it's 21 years old! It's possible that part of the manual was lost. I doubt it was ever in there though. I've had this TT for about 3 years and I tow it about 1200 miles a year. 95-100 sounds good to me and as I said that's about what they were all at. I check them a couple of times if a wheel has been removed after that I check them once a year. I also jack up and wiggle each wheel once a year and during the first few trips of the year I stop after about 30-40 miles and feel the hubs to see if there getting hot. I check the air in the tires about twice a year and oil the pivot points in the suspension fairly often. If I don't they start to squeak. I'm just a weekend camper that stays within 75 miles of home.
  • Somewhere in your bag of manuals you should find a manual for the frame. The torque value will be in that manual. It is very important that you torque your wheels correctly and check them periodically, especially if a wheel has been removed for any reason. It's good practice to check them before every trip.
  • Do you have the trailer owner's manual? It would be in there. You can also call any dealer that sells that maker's trailers, and their techs can tell you.
  • I looked in the so called owners manual. Which is a bag with a sales broacher in it and the manuals for all the appliances . It said nothing about wheel torque. They are 5 bolt wheels by the way. I tightened them to 95 and that is where they all seemed to be. There was one lug nut maybe just a little loose but, the rest were all 95. Must be the right the right number and it must be what I tightened them too last year when I did the bearings. I should write that number down somewhere so I could quit asking. lol

Typically it would be around 95 ft lbs for 6 lug steel wheels and higher for 8 lug steel. The info on actual spec should be in the owners manual

Thanks. I'll look I the owners manual but, I don't remember seeing anything about it in there. Have a nice Day
