I'm looking for a trailer at this size and features:Keystone Laredo 330RLKeystone says the Gross Vehicle Weight is 9,875. Let's call it 10,000. Ford says an F-150 can pull up to 10,500. The F-250 can pull up to about 13,500. If money was no object I would probably get the F-250, but since my last name isn't Gates or Buffett I do want to spend my money wisely. If you have this sort of experience, what would be your advice regarding this decision?

Either an F150 3.5L EB with the HD payload package or an F250 will easily pull that. The F250 6.2L will pull it with better stability and better engine braking while the F150 will pull it with better performance and maybe better fuel mileage.

Maybe if you live where it is flat.For the mountains you need all the truck you can find which means a diesel, preferably with some upgrades and good gauges.

If one is going to use mtns in context, one should point out elevation is more important, than just mtns! If above 6-7000' frequently, then a forced induction motor is better, be it a turbo on a diesel, or supercharger on a gas rig. If one has.the ~2500 lbs of payload for hitch, 500-700 lbs for 2 people, plus Mr Winston the supper puppy in my case, hitch etc. 250+ ponies, you should be fine. If below any.of these issues, then, you'll probably.have issues......Marty

On RV.net 1 ) the only thing a 1/2 can safely pull is a pop-up 2) If you need to go over more than an overpass you need a diesel 3) IF you need a 3/4T you should buy a 1T for your families safety and those around them... I'd personally I'd get a 3/4T class pickup.

The yellow payload sticker on your door is calculated for each truck having a full tank of fuel. The tank size was figured into your payload. Only passengers and cargo count towards payload.

8400 pounds dry with 1075 pounds dry TW? I wouldn't even recommend the HD payload F-150. Plenty of power for 9500 pounds of parachute. Not enough receiver or rear suspension for 1300 pounds of loaded TW.

I won't opine on the 1/2 ton vs 3/4 ton question, but I'll throw in some information about payload that I recently encountered. My F-150 has the larger fuel tank: 36 gallons. By my calculations a full tank of gas will weigh in at 222 pounds. Wowsers.

For the record, the OP's trailer is too much for a 1/2 ton,and I think if you are right at the limit, you should bump up to a 3/4 ton, but a "1/2 ton can only tow a PUP"? Come on...

Deary me, BPRescue, google "sarcasm" and get back to us.

On topic, like many others I'd recommend a gas 3/4 or 1-ton SRW to tow a 10k trailer safety but also be close in price to a 1/2 ton.

That trailer is solidly in 3/4 ton territory. With such a low CCC you are for sure going to be pushing up against the GVWR of that trailer.

At 9500+ lbs, there is zero reason to try and make a 1/4 ton work when that is clearly into 3/4 ton territory.

Check out all the 3/4 tons and find one you love and tow away with peace of mind and one hand on the wheel and completely relaxed.

I'm a big fan of the Ecoboost F-150, and believe in the tow ratings. However if I was looking at a 9K loaded trailer, I'd go directly to the HD trucks. Pulling a car hauler loaded to 10K lb is a completely different animal than pulling a 10k lb long and high wall RV.

F-250 that want-to-be 150 will not cut the mustard with that trailer. The cost of a 250 is the same as the 150 if you don't load it up. If it were me I would get the diesel and go with a less loaded truck.

Short answer, your in 3/4 ton truck territory with that trailer, period. Will the ford with the max payload pull it, yes.

Will that light weight 1/2 ton chassis control that weight in windy conditions on in an emergency situation? I'd have my doubts. My truck would.
