As much as I'm a proponent of the F150 EB HD - Engine could handle the mountains no problem, I'd go with the 250/350 for the hitch alone.

Good tips. I found this Towing Guide after reading your comment and with the weight distributing hitch it puts the limit at 1220, properly equipped. This may be pushing me to the 3/4 ton truck. The specs on that trailer show the tongue weight at about 13 percent so at 9,500 it would be about 1,250 on the tongue. That's not what I wanted to hear.
