How much weight can a snap n nap hold?

As many of you know I have a 76 Amerigo with the pop out bed in the back called the snap n nap, Thus of course allowing up to 6 people to sleep in the camper. That said I am not sure how safe it is for 2 adults to sleep in it. Anyone know or have paperwork that states how much weight the bed can hold? We have friends coming camping with us and the dinette is too small ( snap n nap more roomy) for 2 adults.

  • Thanks so much. It makes me nervous as all the aluminum supports on the bottom of the bed are all original and a few welds needed to be made when we did the reno. It just doesn't seem that sturdy to me. I am trying to figure a way to make some supports that can be easily be stowed away in an already "short of storage" camper. You can relate Dave...
  • Hi Wagonqueen,
I had two adults on the Snap n Nap with no problems. I say it can handle 350-400 lbs. It will start bowing the aluminum frame, but it holds. I would put the "heavier" person towards the front.
All your hardware to secure the bed assembly should be new or in good shape from the rebuild? to handle max weight situations.
I always told the kids to not bounce around and horse play on it, thinking it would hurt it, but it held up!
    Good Luck!
    Dave
  • Frankly I repaired couple of cab overs and am still surprised how rotten 1x1.5 pieces of lumber can support the weight of 2 adults + some cargo
The picture is not telling everything. Would that be a metal frame in the pop out, I would not see a problem.
This way or the other checking out with manual should be the first thing.
  • With the back wall becoming the hanger for the outer edge of the bed I can't imagine it would not hold a lot of weight , much more than two adults .

Guess you will find out pretty quickly. They will have a good night's sleep or become dirtqueen (unhappy) sleepsters.

Seriously, I doubt that something built back then wouldn't support a couple of adults.
  • Have you considered placing some kind of support under the fold out?

Something like this, maybe with couple peices of wood.
  • Among other things in these pictures, you can see my Northstar 8.5 Arrow with the pop out queen size bed opened.
It has a load rating tag on it that says do not exceed 1000 lbs.

I consider that a pretty hefty rating.
