- Doug33Explorer1991 - first PU, very basic to sleep off ground
1996 - second PU, with small shower to bath kids
1999 - third PU, larger unit with bath/shower and more options
2006 - first TT, 24' entry level unit with no slide and few options
2013 - second TT, 28' with slide and many options
So, we've had 5 different RVs in the past 23 years, so the average is almost 5 years each. And we plan on keeping this current TT for at least 5 years.
Interestingly, every time I've traded in, the dealer has commented on how clean and well maintained the unit was. This has helped me to negotiate a higher trade in value. There were times that we considered purchasing a used RV, but the units we had interest in were either in bad shape or had bad smells (grease, mold, smoke, etc) in them. This was a total turn off for the wife, so we always bought new. - dadmomhExplorerBought our '07 ROO HTT in July '06. Kept it until May, 2013 when we moved to Rocky. Had no plans to ever change from our HTT but didn't count on the age thing creeping up - us not the ROO - and needed something with a bit less work. It'll be Rocky until the day we decide we're done with camping.
- KS56ExplorerWe have been buying a new travel trailer every 6 years. Works for us! Just bought our third one this past Spring, an Apex 215RBK.
- GrandpaKipExplorer IIStarted RVing in 2008 with a pop up. Converted a cargo trailer in 2010. Bought this one in 2012. Have no interest in anything else.
- Dick_BExplorerWe had a Trailmanor for a couple of seasons then graduated to our present Sunnybrook in 2003. I've had to repair the Water Heater and replace the Black Tank Valve but that's been about it for work needing to be done in that time.
- dahkotaExplorer2 years for our first tt. We loved it but decided to go fulltime.
1.5 years for our second tt. Fulltimed in it for 7 months and decided a class A would suit us better.
If we hadn't decided to go fulltime, we would have kept the first one. We loved our first tt but the second one had more storage. Had we known our style of fulltiming is better suited to a class A, we would never have bought the second one and skipped right to a class A. So, our first tt made us fall in love with rving, our second was a mistake due to lack of knowledge. But, we did love them both - it was just that our needs changed. - Dennis_SmithExplorerFirst 16 foot funfinder was 2 years. Saved all our money and paid cash for a 22 foot fun finder. No plans to replace it. We only pay cash, so if we decide to replace it, we are at least 3 years of saving money to pay cash. Something about it being paid off and sitting there in the winter not being used. Toys should be paid for cash, just my 2 cents worth. You can't repo paid for.
- camp-n-familyExplorerEvery 2 years it seems for us. That's how long it took to get tired of, and grow out of, the previous ones. Went from pup to hybrid to small bunkhouse to large bunkhouse with all the bells and whistles. I think we finally found the right one and will keep it longer although the kids will be older in a few years and maybe we'll downsize when they can sleep in a tent.
- scbwrExplorer IIFirst popup-one year. DW decided that camping would be a good thing, and a bigger popup would be better.
Second popup-2 years. It had several issues...when the roof needed replacement (under warranty), we decided to trade it in for a bigger model.
Third popup-10 years. StarCraft Starstream was a great camper.
Sunline travel trailer-10 years. Great trailer....it was starting to show it's age, but we had to get a new truck and decided to get a trailer that could be towed with a 1/2 ton truck.
Winnebago 2201DS......plan to keep it as long as possible. But, that depends on our needs and health. - lawrosaExplorerIts like golf... I have had the same old wilson staff irons for 25 years. Before that as a kid it was haigen blades..
I have buddys that need latest and greatest and spend close to $1400 on the newest clubs every year..
I usually beat the pants off them..
Its not the arrow its the Indian....:E
