I had a 8.5 foot popup on a "heavy half" Chevy. It was adequate. As said, listed wieght is very deceiving. Example, my current hardside says 2200 lbs on the tag. Actual weight ready to go is 3000.
I loved my popup. Rides nice on truck, very warm in cold weather. The only reason we switched is wife wanted toilet and bigger bed. The hardside is so much more cumbersome, but we go many off beaten places with it. The popup was better for this hands down. Im thinking a Tacoma is minimal for anything. A Tundra would probably be better, but there are SO many varied opinions on this type of question.
