How to get the tail light lens off

We have an older Coleman Taoes, and no matter how I try, I cannot get the tail light lens off.
There is a black tab on each side that looks like if I pushed it in with a screw driver. It would release it, but I cannot get it to budge

Can any one tell me the secret to removing it?
