The gasket isn't even the right type. The one that was installed appears to be some kind of roached flat washer/gasket. The closest faucet to this leads me to believe it's a Phoenix Catalina which should have an o-ring. If so, then a leak could definitely be possible. And since there's a gap at the base of the faucet, water could leak under the cabinet undetected. If it were a small amount, it could run down the water lines and onto the water heater. This may not be the only issue, but certainly a possibility as a primary issue!
