I bought an extra globe too. LOL

Yup I love the nostalgia part. I think I would make it the main light vs just over the dinette.
Something about that warm glow gives a certain comfort in the world.

Those were in almost every camper made years ago...Can't tell you how many of the glass domes I have broke because I forgot to secure them for washbordy roads..lol..Nobody died that I know of from using them for many many years...I wish they were an option as well as the old hand water pump by the sink and the forced air furnace without a blower...

I didn't "dodge" anything.

For me its just not a concern.

However, I would not recommend you getting one.

I bought this truck and camper back in 2005.
The camper is a 1963 Gold Coast 49er.



The arrow is pointing to the gas light that was installed by the camper manufacture.
The globe was already broken when I got the camper.



I bought the truck to tow my 1969 Excel TT.



I liked the idea of having a light that did not require electricity so I bought a new globe for it and installed it on the trailer above the kitchen sink.



I tapped into the propane line for the fridge.



Then I ran to copper tubing thru the cabinets to the gas light.

I liked it soo much I installed a second one. :B



This time I tapped into the main LP line under the trailer.



I ran the tubing along the frame and up thru the floor.



Then thru the wall to the bathroom.



The trailer had a radiant heat furnace that didn't supply heat to the bathroom, the gas light provided light and heat for the bathroom. It worked excellent.

I'd get up in the morning, crack open the jalousie window and light the light. Within 10-15 minutes the bathroom was toasty warm.

I used those gas lights for over 5 years and I'm still here.

On cool fall nights it will keep the camper warm without running the furnace or needing and power to run an electric heater.

i'm looking forward to having another one in my camper.
