Would you buy the Ram if it had the v8 cummins? They are a foreign company. Would you buy the Nissan if Ford purchased the company? I know it has been stated before. But pretty much all the auto manufacturers are public corporations. You can put as many American dollars as you want into their stock and buy something from a company YOU own not a foreign entity.

Production of the medium duty ISV just started at the end of last year, so to me that's an all new design.

It is the first V configuration Cummins On-Highway engine in many years.

I believe it was initially announced in the fall of 2013.

The Cummins wouldn't of gotten Ram the mpg they needed. The Motori does. The Cummins would've drooped that already low payload number even further. No use having all that power if you don't get high mpg's and can't carry enough in the bed for TT's

The Titan is also a half ton and is subject to all half ton payload issues carrying around a fairly heavy diesel. Somehow Nissan will make it work. Titan has experienced very dismal US sales over the years compared to other half tons and especially to the Tundra. This Cummins engine will bring buyers that would not otherwise purchase the Titan. It also is smart for Cummins as they now have another diesel in a pickup, perhaps worldwide. For the buyers that like to buy American, Titan, at least now has the American Cummins name recognition for the engine. And the Cummins in the Ram's since 1989 have been a success story, a fact not lost on Nissan. Today, well actually later this year, if I want a half ton diesel, I would certainly look at Nissan. Yesterday with the gas engine, probably not.

It's a modified version of one of their medium duty commercial engines, so it isn't an all new design. It could prove to be a really great motor. In fact I'd be real interested in seeing it in a Ram 2500.

I've had very good personal experiences with Nissan over the years. They went through a bit of a quality swoon for a while but seem to be back in good shape again. My guess is this Titan XD will suddenly make the Titan relevant again.

Guess you didn't pay any attention to the info on the web site. This truck is as much an American truck as any Ford, Chevy or Dodge.

How about the transmission- both Nissan and Ram HD offer an Aisin.
Certainly Ram was offered this 1/2 ton (Cummins/Aisin) combo first and decided to pass on it-
My guess is that the economics of "buying" in house made more sense than going outside. Perhaps the cost of going outside was too expensive for them to be able to sell many trucks or perhaps they got greedy and could make an extra few dollars staying inside. Perhaps the MPG was what they were after- which at todays oil price is far less of an issue.

Given the choice I would absolutely buy the Nissan (Cummins/Aisin) over the Ram (Fiat/Motori) offering. Nissan makes good vehicles and with a Cummins/Aisin- it's a no brainer! The thing is gonna be a 1/2 ton brute built for the long haul!

I think Nissan will price the new Titan XD right between a 1500 and 2500 series truck. That seems to be their marketing strategy, aim right in between a 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton.
