Gotta disagree here. More dads should play with their kids instead of just turning them loose. Then the damage and beating are both avoided.
For the OP, you may wish that you'd gotten insurance info instead of cash. I've heard those legs are expensive to replace.
My kids think I am their personal entertainment. On our last trip we took them to the beach, flew kites, looked for shells, walked to the pier for ice cream came back threw the baseball around and played Battleship. DS wanted to keep going and at that point I feel the boy should be able to entertain himself for at least 30 minutes. At some point I need a break too! He should be able to ride bikes with his 12 year old sister.
