The stock incandescent was 35 watts. It got very HOT. Way too hot to touch. The LEDS do heat up, but I can hold my finger on them for quite awhile. Of course with there being five of them, the cumulative heat load may be more that the single pistol hot bulb they replaced. No easy way to test it other than just doing it. This mod was so cheap though that it is worth giving a shot. I will keep an eye on them for awhile, and report back....
Geeeeze... WHY is it the light police just can't let this go?
Huntindog- take a look inside from time to time and make sure you're not overheating anything with your LED stuffed fixture. LED's do make heat and that's a really sealed and small enclosure.
Gotta laugh as some are still worried about me in a campground.
Nice to know they care.:B
I built an Amber LED area light out of 12 1W LED's I called LEDZILLA in a scare light fixture specifically to make sure I run it in the darkest CG's I can find... :)
Anyway, 12 watts can get pretty warm in that tiny container, so be careful. I have all of mine mounted on an aluminum plate but am looking at changing the LED's in LEDZILLA out for 3W devices (36W), so I'll need to do something about cooling them. It also has a full range dimmer on it so I dial up the level needed from 0 to full bright. It's built with 4 groups of 3, so I can run it full bright on 10V via 8A regulator.
