I think Admin is at the mercy of many layers of management. As you are well aware, we have been waiting for years for basic repairs to the software. It is so low on the priority list, that I am not very optimistic we will see much done. I think Admin has a full plate, and see no value in loading more on it with something he has no control over. I am sure Admin thinks it is a good idea as do I, but the powers that be think differently.
...Wayne - how bout pestering Admin to allow this site to join the 90's?
Wayne - BoatycallExplorerThe pics I posted in my thread about the Dish Tailgator are on a small, local mom and pop internet company's servers for now. I'm going to call them tomorrow and ask what they charge for a simple hotlinking account.
I do websites for a hobby, I also have a 30TB server of my own, but the problem there is, I do websites for a hobby --- not internet security. I don't want to open up a port on my server to share jpg's only to find next thing I know I've been hacked and now my server is a p*rn server for some Russian dudes.
If the cost for this webspace is cheap enough, I'll post it here.
My question (which others have asked) -- Why can't rv.net spare the $159 it would take for a decent server-grade 2TB hard drive and allow images to be hosted here like other websites? I'd be willing to chip in. Let's get a collection/gofundme going - all in favor of chipping in $10 to rv.net chime in!!
Wayne - how bout pestering Admin to allow this site to join the 90's? - AnEv942NomadUnknown- but doesnt hurt to leave copies.
If, as highly improbable and unlikely it may be, PB had a change of heart- old inaccessible links would be restored.
IF, I lost copies of albums on cpu or IMGUR account and still have access to PB just another backup. I'm working from purely self serving position-not considering effects pro or con to PB.
Point is, IMO, simply deleting all pics and albums from PB (without downloading copies of albums) just limits and makes more difficult to pursue options, if you chose to.
Ive downloaded all pictures and albums to my computer from PB so I have a duplicate of what was uploaded over the years.
Extracted to a simular file structure
Created an IMGUR account and uploaded the extracted files recreating albums
However due to the renaming of files wont be using imgur-just too difficult finding/matching for relinking...Free and simple if you dont have many pics-however as mentioned before imgur is 'evolving'. Also if using imgur I recommend opening an account so you have some control. I've seen to many imgur pictures linked from the free web portal that were simply overwritten by someones elses picture with same file name. anyway...
Opened up another account, trying a paid account with smugmug. Only one I found that the files keep names so easier to relocate, option for sizes, other features. So far I'm liking... there are several other sites.
Once account set up and pictures hosted, hard parts over. Its simply finding/editing posts, copying new url and overwriting link. Once pictures hosted somewhere links can be updated at your leisure.
I'm re-linking all posts I have access to. Tedious, painful yes. Not that most of my posts have any real value, but a few less holes in threads. - Kayteg1Explorer III did sign for it, but how can you request that commercial business will not take the money?
- DWeikertExplorer IISign the Change.org petition for Photobucket to reverse the new charges. Never know...

-still free backup storage.
For how long?
Got email today from PB with offer to upgrade and have hosting available.
Here is the cart
Photobucket upgrade - AnEv942NomadNot sure I understand the impulse to delete all pics/albums when nowhere will picures link back to PB unless picture is 'opened'.
I've downloaded all albums (zip) because if rebuilding posts at least I have collection of the pictures that have been posted different forums over the years.
Trying to relocate some of them would be impossilbe. Having the albums at least gives me the structure and pictures to upload somehere else.
Im leaving pics on PB-jusincase, though I made private since they wont show up anyway-still free backup storage. - Bob__BExplorerI deleted everything and my account also. If they get money from their advertisers based on traffic, everyone deleting their accounts should be hurting their bottom line.
- They found me today and blocked the links. All pictures now deleted, all albums deleted, account deleted.
I do not make money on my pictures so there is no reason for them to get anything.
Photobucket is now on my list. - AnEv942NomadGot my email notification from PB-all past linked pictures gone.
Hoping against hope they wouldn't find me :)
