If you were to Resto-mod a TC, what what you do?

This is only for fun.

I just read the post on the old TC and matching truck for sale, thought it was really cool.

I want to see more pics of Restored or Resto-Mod campers, and throw it out there - what would you do if you found a "Barn Find TC" that needed a resto and wanted to go the route of Resto-Mod?

I think it would be cool to: (Again, this is only for fun)
Reinforce the frame and add a custom engineered slide
Solar
Kegerator
Flat pane TV
Electric box awning

And I'd love to see more pics of old campers if you have them.

  • There are a few things I Didnt think long enough about during my resto, in hindsight... Hate the wallpaper I used to try and achieve the camper wall look. It is getting damaged towards the bottom when we load items to take with us. Hate the dark cherry looking flooring is used. Should have went lighter. Too much cherry in a small space. Should have put another flat screen in the living area. The one in my cab over is too high to look up at from the dinette. Oh well.

    What do you consider old?

    Wayne
  • Great Topic, I will have to think about my response.
The link in the previous posting has the same TC that I posted in another thread that is for sale online.

I love looking at older RVs, not just TCs. If I were more skilled at woodworking and the like, I would love to take an older TC and do like the OP said: Outside looks original, inside original but with all the modern conveniences.

    Thanks for the topic.
  • I would gut everything from the cabover back, and put in three things:

    1. The largest dry bath I could fit.
    2. Refrigerator.
    3. A jackknife sofa.
  • I notched the bottom of a popup TC to fit over a L-shaped aux gas tank.
Then enclosed the space between the cab and camper, aero-mod.
  • Thinking of the same thing when I retire.
    Aluminum framing
Fresh water and Grey water tanks located under floor
Batteries (3) in the front basement (where water tank usually is)
    Cassette toilet
Center of Gravity as low as possible
    All exterior siding smooth
Total weight as low as possible plus balanced left to right
  • Replace frame with aluminum.
Smooth siding (as opposed to the aluminum siding mine has)
Move wet bath up front and position things more ergonomically.
Basically make the rest of it a garage not unlike a toy hauler. Just brainstorming what I think would be cool. Realistically, the logistics of storage and being fully self contained would get in the way of the toy hauler idea.

    Lightweight as possible though!
