Ike Gauntlet- Diesel GMC Canyon vs. Gas Chevy Colorado

TFLtrucks.com

Nice to see how the mid-sized twins performed pulling a decent trailer up the Ike Gauntlet. However, it wasn't really fair comparing interiors between a Denali Canyon vs. a modestly equipped Colorado. The lack of horsepower in the diesel definitely had an impact on the Canyon.
  • Kinda shoots the idea about torque vs horsepower. The diesel had considerable more torque but less horsepower then the gas. Horsepower is measurement of work performed, more hp = more work performed. No surprise at the outcome.
  • I thought it was a really good video. IIRC the payload between the two trucks was not that significant of a difference. That Diesel in the downhill was impressive. Yea it was a little slow on the climb but it got a little better MPG.

But, is still buy gas. RPM's don't bother me while towing and the MPG difference isn't that great.

    Thanks!

  • Diesel still wins on the downhill, which from my own experiences trumps losing a few seconds on the uphill. Not too mention the more relaxed RPM levels.

I may have missed it, but I wish they would have weighed the 2 trucks prior to testing them. Would be good to see the weight penalty of the diesel with the trim package on the GMC.

Will never be in the market for anything less than a DRW 350/3500, but still interesting none the less.
