Just got back from a county campground in northern Wisconsin. On our way out on Sunday I was walking to the trash can and an guy in his class A yelled out the window "How do you like this setup". He quickly got out and showed me his setup. It was a smaller class A, an 4 place ATV trailer and then a 2 place PWC trailer. Pretty sure neither of the trailer had brakes. I just said you are triple towing and how does it tow. He responded "pretty good!. It's only 64', I've got 1' to spare". I just walked away without saying how illegal this is in my state. After thinking about it on the drive home I remember seeing someone triple towing a boat behind a popup at this same campground last year. Does anyone else see illegal double or triple towing in their state?

I checked two different sources and it appears that WI does allow double towing on "select highways" with a maximum length of 60'. Might want to consult your state laws.....Double towing is legal in at least 39 states and lengths vary from 60' to 90'........

From what I have gathered by reading, it seems that it legal there if under 65'. Im not so sure on the trailers requiring brakes, but for sure I wouldn't do it without them. If something goes wrong they could save you from a wreck. So what is legal and what is safe are not necessarily the same.

It is legal to double tow in Wisconsin, although it is called triple tow in the regs, I don't think it means 4 vehicles.

To clarify: Triple towing in Wisconsin requires the first trailer be a 5th wheel and both trailer require brakes. Both times I've seen it at this campground were illegal and this time the guy even pointed out his setup to me as I walked by!

Correct. My Florida Highway Patrol friends (both amateur radio operators) constantly pulled over and cited people towing double on Interstate 10. The only double towing allowed is with commercial vehicles.

Yes 2 bumper pulls is legal in Id, Also here in Nv and also Ca. There are alot of states that it is legal but the length limits are different. I was talking about the triples in Or in that its probably only legal on the interstates. I am not positive though as i dont need to know about them.

Nevadanick, maybe you are talking about certain locations, I don't know. But we park along US 20 in Island Park ,ID. frequently and I see ball to ball daily.

Ontario is in Oregon. The advantage of triples is being able to make drops mid-route, so they are ideal for rural routes with small towns. Oregon has more triples trucks than any other state combined (26 million miles per year in Oregon vs 45 million miles total US)

your right about reciprocity this state doesn't abid by anybody else laws..something might be legal were your from just be sure it will fly here or prepare for big bunches of tickets..and check with more than one leo my friend was told he could tow doubles with his gooseneck by one weighmaster and no way by onother.. even if the doubles are legal some common sense should be used had a f'er go by my house the camper was crushing the truck towing it and then the nearly as big boat was bending the back of the trailer nearly to the ground..

Cpaulen, i believe that the triples are only allowed on interstates and a mile from interstate. You probably wont see them any where else.
