How old? Ford had lousy diesels after the 7.3 until they dropped IH and built their own 6.7L
Dodge or Ram as their now called has Cummins 5.9 and after 1/1/2007 6.7L. The 6.7 after a few teething issues has proven to be a great motor. The 68RFE has also been proven to be strong and reliable. GM twins have carried the Duramax/Alliaon since 2002. Each year has brought upgrades in HP/Torque. The only real bad one was the LLY variant. They had overheating issues on many of them. What you need to do is go drive and pick one that feels best to you.
As far as new, Ram has by all reports has the nicest interior of the bunch.
