But still not relevant to this thread, we all know we can throw a couple 5 gallon cans in the bed. Thats not what this thread was started for. Reason I stayed out of it , until 12V decided I needed to join in .

I agree to a point. To be frank, it's only fuel you don't need if you never use it. If you use the truck then you need the fuel at some point.

What I question is carrying an extra 100 gallons, or more, of fuel. That's over 700 lbs. At some point you're using fuel to carry that fuel. I have a small, 35 gallon, tank that enables me to travel about double what the regular fuel tank allows. Much more than that and I'm just carrying around fuel for no reason. When I fill up at the end of the day, both tanks are pretty low, so it works out just about perfect.

I agree that 5 gallon jug had no value to add to this thread . Listen to your own advice, and stay in the sandbox you should be in .

I do not get the argument about paying for fuel you don't need.... There is no law that states one MUST fill the extra tank. Use your head, If you are going to be around home for awhile, don't fill it... If you are going on a trip where the conveinece and /or pricing would make it better to fill it...Do so. If you miscalculate and return from a trip with extra fuel....Well you won't need to buy any for awhile, and the bonus is you likely got it at a good price. The people crapping on the concept of slip tanks are like the people who **** on diesels, because they're "not necessary..."

I’ve been working about 100 miles from my home and the town I go to always has diesel at least .40 cents less. And with a 1400 mile range not towing, I’m spoiled not filing up for 3 weeks. Now I’m not really trying to quantify savings, I love the convenience whether I’m towing or not.

I have to assume you have a short bed, a few cents? Last fill 48.7 gallons @ $1.44 with discount card savings $46.67, last few 20.86, 43.94, 25.86, 40.41 in savings with 5 fills. I'll take the few cents about $150 every day. Truck tank + the 80 gal transfer tank that's switched via up fitter switch in the cab, truck on, up fitter switch on, tanks switch outside on, pump till full.

You would never get my tool box to fit in a short bed.
