I have only used this twice. Ya gots to stop and eat/pee. NOT worth loosing bed space!!! If I did anything I would go with a 55 gallon TITAN replacement tank.
Don't want to loose any space, love my bed height HighwayProducts 30" deep tool box.
A few cents a gallon here and there, I am past trying to save every penny.
I have to assume you have a short bed, a few cents? Last fill 48.7 gallons @ $1.44 with discount card savings $46.67, last few 20.86, 43.94, 25.86, 40.41 in savings with 5 fills. I'll take the few cents about $150 every day. Truck tank + the 80 gal transfer tank that's switched via up fitter switch in the cab, truck on, up fitter switch on, tanks switch outside on, pump till full.
I don't think those savings add up quite that fast. You need to recover the cost of the tank and installation before any savings begins. Next you need to consider you spent an extra 115.00 in fuel to keep your aux tank full. At some point you are buying and storing fuel you don't need.
I don't dispute that there are savings to be had, but it's not as cut and dry as it my seem.
To me the best advantage is being able to fuel when I want to, not when I need. Too many times a head wind cut mileage and I needed fuel now in an area I don't know. Where can I get fuel in some little town? I can pass through WA or CA and not have to pay outrageous prices. For a weekender with a two week vacation it's probably not worth it. Being about 3/4 time the convenience is worth the cost. The savings is an added benefit. Don't understand storing fuel I don't need. Unless I plan to sell the truck or stop driving it is going to need fuel & in that case the tank will be drained for transfer to the next truck.
I agree it more about convenience than savings. I also agree there is savings to be had by avoiding higher priced fuel.
However you are carrying 80 additional gallons that may not be necessary. Would you save even more if you had 2 tanks? Are you spending more or saving more? There is a return on investment factor to consider. There is $115.00 additional dollars in the truck stops pocket that is not in your pocket.
I have a small aux tank that provides some savings and convenience
but I spend more when I fill the aux tank and I don't always use/need the additional fuel. I think sometimes the fuel station wins!
