We tow a KZ 16RBT with a V6 toyota tacoma. We love the Tacoma as a daily driver for my wife and it gets used as a truck going to the dump and Home Depot. We do use a WDH, which is great, but we have towed for short distances without the WDH and it's still pretty good - though our trailer is lightweight (2800# maybe). Our truck is a 2009 with 140,000 miles on it, and is going strong - Tacoma's run forever and hold thier value. We get 23mpg not towing and about 12 mpg with the trailer.
Congratulations on finally choosing a TT to replace the popup - the 18BH looks nice. Surprised you did not get a hybrid, but maybe that means you can camp in colder weather...?
