The higher the Gross Vehicle Weight of the tow vehicle always makes for a safer towing experience .
Any full size 1500 pickup will suffice without an equalizing hitch .
I drive a duramax , with 9200# gvw . Obviously no issues towing any trailer up to the posted GCWR gross COMBINED weight rating.
For a smooth ride ( coil springs ) good power 5.7 HEMI . and cheapest price you could consider a RAM pickup .
Rams are cheaper than GM and Ford and offer the softer coil springs .
If you upgrade to a bigger trailer then you can add the equalizing hitch .

Equalizing hitches are a crutch for those folks who choose to tow a larger , longer trailer than their lighter VW vehicle is comfortable with .
Simple physics . A heavier vehicle tows a lighter trailer better than a lighter vehicle tows a heavier trailer .
Auxiliary Transmission Coolers are a good investment on any tow vehicle that is not a 2500 or higher .
