Incentives on GM, Ford

link

Looks like it's a good time to buy a new GM or Ford if you are the type that likes a really big discount. 7,500 rebate on a new GM pickup, especially a newly redesigned model is a heck of a deal.
  • GM overprices their new line of trucks and then gives big rebates to clear their beloated inventory. This is nothing new. I bought an Envoy in 2004 that stickered for 32K for 19K including discounts and rebates. Same old GM.
  • If you follow truck prices over a period of time, you'll notice the prices rise in proportion to the upcoming rebates/discounts.

We've been "truck-shopping" for awhile, and noticed one specific version of the 2500HD rose about $4000 equipped as we like it ... then, the dealer 'discounted' the truck (Big sign, $4000 discount) - and brought it down to the original sale price. It's been a few months - and prices rise - but not 10% in four months.

We're all for profit in a business, makes this country tick, but don't like it when something like this happens and we get a "GM raised the prices on us" line. The truck is a different VIN, but equipped almost identical to the one we looked at earlier. We always buy certain options - so its fairly easy to compare prices when the equipment is similar.

There's one particular dealer near us that 'hustles customers' ... Genie bought her Pontiac there a few years ago, and it's done our service on both vehicles for a couple years ... Well, now we'll never return for anything.

We needed the brakes done - coincidentally got a flyer in the mail from the dealer for a "new brakes price" ... after we got there, we see the big sign, brakes "$ XXX and 25% off". But, when we get the estimate, it shows full price, and a mail rebate form ... 25% off. We leave the truck ... pick it up, mail in the form (actually, go online and submit) ... two days later, I get an email that program is "Discontinued" ... NO rebate ! So, called the Service manager - he tells me "We don't have anything to do with rebates" -- and "We can't help it if the program cancels" ... Manager ended up giving me a 'certificate for free oil change ... which I won't ever use now.

OK, why have the sign, and why hand me the rebate form? And as it turns out, that program was cancelled a month prior to the brake job. Hmmmm, it's winter, maybe we should call it a snow job instead.
  • My Son works at a Ford assembly plant and get the X plan for friends and neighbors. Not sure how many but I have put a few fellow RV's in touch with him. PM me if interested. Nice thing about it, Ford sets the price, but anything added to the truck at the dealership is subject to dealers mark up.
  • Typically the financing and incentives gwt better as the year progresses. Ford is already giving 8k off an f150 and 3.99financing. Add to that thae new model in 15' and im guessing this summer/fall will be a super time to buy a Ford.
  • I got $8750 in rebates buying a Ford this past December. Combining that with z plan pricing and a little negotiation and I feel like it was an outstanding value!

GM offer is ONLY on specific models not mentioned in the announcement. I know, because I recently purchased a half ton. My factory order to gain the new 6.2 engine and Max trailering package resulted in a three month, ten day wait for the vehicle! My vehicle arrived yesterday at the dealer, since the placement of order on 10-31-13! GM is evidently not in a hurry to manufacture vehicles. Never again will I order from the factory! Bottom line, read the fine print and models being offered with large rebates.

This will help move trucks for GM plus many are waiting or ordering the new heavy duty 15s Just a matter of time for the new trucks to kick into high gear with sales and the HDs too. Then the Colorado canyon will start kicking butt while bringing in new customers . The combo of the HDs, halftons, and new midsize, with diesel as option will allow GM to sell a lot of trucks when compiled together. 7500 bucks seems good to me !!

    Mark,
I give you an A+ for enthusiasm. :B

Does this also apply to the new GM 2015 HDs?
I haven't seen any pricing on GM website or Edmunds yet?

I don't think so. This is just for the 1500/150 level truck I think.
