- kerry4951ExplorerPermits are required for metal carports in many areas. I had to get one. In my case it was because my RV carport was permanently mounted to a concrete foundation. It also is considered to be a structure "under roof" and structures under roof cannot exceed 20% of your total lot size. You will have to contact your particular borough, town, city or HOA to find out the specifics. They are all different.
Just a suggestion...if you go with a metal carport get the vertical roofing. That allows for rain, snow, and ice to unload on its own, and away from the opening.

No permit. I did get the certified to 90mph one though. Comes with engineering drawings etc. Who knows what the county will require later on. - Reddog1Explorer IIbigfootford, was a permit required?
Wayne - bigfootfordNomad IIII would start here : You will have to call them..
Decide on the size and style. I would order the roof style that makes the water run off on the sides rather than the ends. My carport has full sides. Really great for keeping the sun off your rig too. You can order just about any configuration you want.
My pad is 30X13 and the cover is 30X12X10(walls).
As you can see my roof corrugation runs lengthwise... I was not thinking about water runoff. Water runs off and splashes onto the trucks front....
Most of these MFG/dealers install the Carport, included in the cost.

Jim - stevekkExplorerGood topic. I am also looking and am in CA.
For my 23 foot Class C. - BedlamModeratorMany places don't require building permits if it does not have a foundation and sits on the ground surface - It is defined as a temporary building. If you live in a managed community, the restrictions will be tighter.
- bobndotExplorer IIIThey use the soft garages in Nh to store snow machines and ATV's . They avoid taxes, its a temporary structure. Nice part is, they seem to work very well . They seem to be holding up over the years, i see the same ones in place year after year. Im sure there are similar companies in CA.
