Inside look at Ford Super Duty builds.

Found this and thought I would share since alot of you drive a SD. I work at Kansas City Assembly Plant, building the F150 so this is alot of how we also build F150's. Hope you all enjoy.

  • Building the new F150 was more than just a model changeover. Since going to an aluminum body, Ford was dealing with the new generation vehicle while designing, building and installing the presses, robots and machinery required to deal with aluminum. Painting techniques also had to be changed.

The Dearborn plant is now up and running. Sounds as if Kansas City is just coming online. Shortly, they'll be flooding the retail market with these great trucks and that means Sales Incentives to push sales.

I read last week of the real to weight capabilities and towing capabilities of these trucks. With the heaviest trailer towing package, the F150 is right there with the F250. The rest of the 1/2 ton trucks are not nearly as capable of towing and hauling as the F150.
  • That brought back memories. I built fords from September 1964 to February 1975. The plant I worked at has been gone for years. I worked in the passenger paint department on the sealer line.

In 1975 I was vested and bought an 18 wheeler. I was driving an 18 wheeler for twenty eight years. I spent my last seven years of driving for Wal-Mart.
  • The Kentucky plant sure did a nice job on mine. Still loving it after nearly 6 years.

Do you know why the F-150's are on hold?

At KCAP we have just started our 2015 build. Not even sure if they have recieved ok to ship yet. Don't know of any problems with units built at Dearborn. We are slowly ramping up.
