Once the paint flakes off they can get contrary to engage and disengage. I try to keep mine lubricated from time to time even if its a shot of WD-40. The drop pins will rust over time so dressing them up on a wire wheel will help. Earlier this summer I wire brushed all 4 stable loads and repainted as best as I could without taking them off. I can see having to do that probably every 2 years. Like everything, they look nice and pretty when they first go on but over time they require some maintenance.
