(P.S. a friend of mine found the same thing in his RV a week ago - State Farm already sent him a check).

Sure, State Farm might be willing to cut a check for such damage but have you considered what that will do the PREMIUM that your friend will be paying for the next few years on his insurance :S
My run ins with State Farm when a bit like this..
Girl Friend at the time had State Farm (why, well that is what HER folks used and that was the only insurance Co that would insure her when she first started driving)..
Stare Farms rates were considerably more expensive to start with.
Then on a really snowy, Icy winter day she was on here way to her College Classes for the day, I was following her on my way to work..
Started down a nice 11% grade hill very slowly..
Half way down she started to slide sideways.. Ended up on the side of the road and stopping, but not before breaking off a sign for a small business on the hill. Sign was not damaged only two 4x4 posts..
State Farm PAID the owner of the business $800 to replace the sign..
The owner of the business had the sign back up the SAME DAY using a couple of 2x4s to hold the broken posts together..
That sign stayed that way for 15 yrs until the highway was widened out (business got a brand new fancier and bigger sign which I would be willing to bet the Sate DOT paid for)..
My Girl Friend was SURCHARGED FOR THREE YEARS costing $800 PER YEAR MORE. So the owner pocketed $796 (ONE 2x4 cut in 2ft pieces for $4 to repair the sign) in pure free "profit", GF paid State Farm $2400 MORE in insurance for a measly sign which would not have more value than $250 tops.. Too put further insult to injury, she was locked in to State Farm until the three years passed and that incident was removed form the insurance record (other insurance companies are able to review accident records)..
Accident WAS NOT "reportable" either since it did not involve another vehicle and did not disable her vehicle..
My suggestion is if you are not happy with YOUR CUT RATE insurance then perhaps YOU should step up to a more expensive insurance company..
After all, insurance companies keep low rates by restricting what they are willing to cover..
Good luck.
