insurance questions

1. Once I put the camper on the truck and head out on the road, do I need to inform my auto insurance company, i.e. does that change anything for liability/insurance purposes, i.e. would it cause issues if I got into a collision and hadn't told my insurance company about the camper beforehand?

2. How are you all insuring your actual truck campers? It's a high-dollar item (for me, at least), and I would imagine people want them insured.

Many thanks in advance.

  • I would insure it on its own policy then if anything happens when it's off the truck you are covered. Mine got blown over last year in a wind storm insurance covered it, if you do not have separate insurance who would cover it off the truck

  • Once I get my camper on my truck, I'll give my auto insurance company a call. Many thanks.
  • Even if you lived in my state, why ask me? Or the others on this forum? Ask your insurance agent! Yes, my actual truck camper was always insured.
  • When I had mine, I insured it with a complete independent replacement value policy with 500 deductible for about 250 per year.
  • Ask your carrier. They may insist on a rider or may consider it part of the truck. CYA!
