ryder.. I am not saying there was no issues with the 5.4 Ford engines over the different versions over the years.
I am only going to make a point about the spark plug breaking off issue...
"for those not blind who WILL see their owners manuals; Up here in Canada (I assume would be similar in USA) it is recommended maintenance to remove and inspect the plugs at something like 96000 Kms (about 60,000 miles)
The folks who did this "usually" had no issues with plugs breaking off. The removal cleaned the carbon off the threads before it got super hard causing them to break for the folks who didn't think it necessary to pull the plugs at iknterval Ford recommended.
I realize most of these engines are now past this mileage point but it may saqve someone some grief and a huge shop bill.
Exactly... Changed my plugs at 75k and no issues. Friend was scared and put it off till 130k and we spent the better part of a day getting them out. The replacement plugs are one piece now so it is a non issue.
Phasers: I spent 20 years at Ford and this is what I do. It is free advice so it is worth what you paid for it. Don't be fooled into running that 5/20 garbage the EPA shoves at us. Use 5/30 and GOOD oil filters. If you go to Jiffy Lube, don't complain about your phasers. Fram filters are known to release fibers and restrict those tiny passages to the heads, pony up a few more bucks and buy a Motorcraft filter. If you do end up changing your phasers, replace the chains, guides and tensioners. While your there, virtually eliminate the problem by replacing the oil pump with a higher pressure pump (you don't have to remove the pan). Do it right, do it once.
