Inverters Why ??

Why not use 12 volts for your camper. 12v items are more and more available today . Microwaves, a/c , will require a generator /or shore power anyway. TV 's are 12 volt, lighting and most everything else is either rechargeable or battery powered . Nice to have a small portable inverter(12v : 120v) on board for occasional need but wiring in a large capacity inverter is unnecessary for most camping requirements. Inverters are not efficient so why not just use a 12 volt appliances ??

  • I purchased a 400 watt ture sine wave inverter to run the entertainment center. I use home audio equipment and large 4k tv. For coffee makers and A/C I start the generator if boondocking. To me this represents the best of both worlds without a lot of money spent.
  • We now have the technology to have quiet 110 volt power available. nverters and solar technology are game changers. Inverters will eventually become optional if not standard equipment on all campers.
Residential refrigerators are now common place and just the start of inverter technology in a RV
We have not found an easy way to run A/C yet but microwaves and most appliances are usable via inverter.
THere is a learning curve to keeping batteries charged but at the end of the day quiet 110 power is available for RV use without totally breaking the bank.
Being locked into 12 volts is just old school thinking.
    Inverters have arrived.
  • Some folks have specific preferences, small single cup coffee maker, residential referigerator, maybe to power a small reefer in a storage area or outdoor kitchen, there are numerous uses. Many are doing it for CPAP machines as well.
