Part of the decision depends on whether or not you will visit locations with 50 amp service and if you are willing to pay for it. In the last 5 years I have stayed at exactly one such location. For others it may be nearly every camping trip.
50 amp equipped trailers work no better than 30 amp ones when hooked to a 30 amp breaker.
Well your last statement is not not totally true but you do raise a good point. Once you upgrade to 50 amp service you will find yourself always seeking 50 amp sites. There were a few places I liked that have no 50 amp sites. I no longer go to many of those places because they only have 30 amp sites. Yes there are adapters to physically plug in, but you become spoiled with 50 amp life and avoid camping on a meager 30 amp connection.
50 amps is nice. No blowing breakers dual A/C etc. however in the end it will change your camping destinations as you seek 50 amp sites.
Slowly I am sucking into all the amenities of my new rig and become more of a glamper, (Glamor camper) one who sits inside with dual A/C blowing and big screen on.
Well I'm not quite that bad,but I do spend more time inside because there is more room and it is more comfortable vs. my prior 30 amp rig.
Nothing wrong with going 50 amps at all but it will change/soften your camping style. The additional power will change your approach to camping. No more energy management. Just turn things on at your leisure without worry. You'll be glamping before you know it. which may not be a bad thing!
