I lived in an ALiner Expedition for 3 months with 3 dogs and 4 cats in the wilds of Utah.
Go figure - I'm nuts. But it was fun, and the cats really enjoyed it as I had an outside mesh tent they hung out in during the day when it was nice and wtached the ground squirrels. I fixed it up so they could go through the hatch door and into the tent. But to do this full-time, one would need a break once in awhile, like renting a house or something for a month now and then. But sure, it can be done, and the Aliner and foldups make travel easy as they don't have much wind-resistance and don't cost a lot in extra gas to tow. I like all the windows and the feeling you're close to the outdoors.
