For those of us in Washington State, When you feel you may not be compliant, you can stop at any weigh station and ask for an inspection. you can go to any state police inspection station and do the same. When you feel you have a brake problem, they have heat cameras to see if your system has a faulty brake. They are your public servants, use them. I'll bet other states have the same service, even those with mandatory annual safety inspections.
