I will bet on the defective TV in this one too. I had a Best Buy (BB) Signature econo TV in my dining room that kept dropping signals on cable. Unable to solve it, I began to have a fear that my wall-buried 75 ohm leadwire got pinched.
Then my buddy bought the same cheap TV for his garage and had the same trouble. He checked with a BB sale rep and the guy privately admitted that the digital encoder was apparently at fault on that low-priced series.
