I am a new TT owner so maybe I haven't noticed before but today this caught my eye. After un- hitching my TT from my truck at storage I went to remove the hitch ball mount from the receiver on my truck and when I pulled it out I noticed it's slightly loose between where the actual hitch ball mounts to the part that slides in the receiver and can be adjusted up or down to accommodate height. I tried to load a picture but can't get it to work.

What kind of wdh do you have? My reese dual cam has some play also. How much play has to do with far the rearward tilt is on mine.

Are you saying the ball can move relative to the ball mount?If so, you need to take the hitch to a place that has a really big torque wrench so they can properly tighten the nut on the ball shaft.Ron

I think he is saying the platform has wiggle not the ball.

I think he means the two bolts that goes thru the ball mount and the shank are not pinching the connection tight. These bolts have a torque spec and need to be very tight. If it doesn't tighten up, get the parts replaced. When I got home after a dealer install, I had this problem.

I ended up getting an Equal-i-zer hitch system when the ball mount and the shank would not tighten up any more on my Reese. Don't know why, but it had wiggle, and that was just enough to cause my ball to be out of align. I even took it back to my dealer to look at, and he said the head was bent, and when he pointed it out, he was right. It never would tighten up or align right, so switched to an Equal-i-zer.

Glad you got it taken care of. That bolt underneath is a 5/8 head. I would check it from time to time to make sure it's still tight.

So I took my WDH back to my dealer/installer the other day and it turns out the hitch was infact loose. Very loose to be exact.
The installer got a full 4-5 turns on both bolts that attatch the ball platform to the shank, Also there is a smaller bolt hidden underneath that hadnt even been tightened down at all. The installers told me they must have "forgot to tighten and torque" everything down to manufacturer specs before they sent me on my way. That didnt give me the best feeling in the world, but I will say they are making an effort to try to make this mistake right.

This how I tightened mine: I applied tension to the bars by hitching up. Then I tightened the hidden bolt, then I torqued the two big bolts. I then brought my tools with on my next trip. About 150 miles with some washboard roads before camp. Before I unhitched.
I check it, and found it loose. I then retightened the whole thing, and it has never loosened up again.

X2, normally a 5/8 wrench to tighten up and they are famous for coming loose. Make sure your 2 side bolts that go through are torqued to spec (over 200 ft lbs or more) and the bottom bolt underneath is tight, if not, you normally will bend the side bolts. Take it all apart as they are probably bent now with that much movement.

Called the installers at my dealer and they want me to brin the hitch back to them. They are saying I shouldnt have any movement at all. Thanks for the input all.

On most hitches there is a bolt on the underside that tightens against the shank to help eliminate this movement. Perhaps yours has loosened, or even fell out.

IMHO, There should be no movement there at all the platform mounts to the stinger with 2 bolts at about 300 lbs. torque…

The platform that the ball mounts to has a little play forward and rearward about 3/4-1".

And this is on a FastAway E2 WDH
