Hi all, I currently have the set up in my sig. What I am thinking of doing is replacing my current tow vehicle(she's gettin' tired.) I can get a good deal on a 2010 Toyota Tundra that tows 10,000. My camper is a 5er but only weighs 8,000 loaded(lightweight). Would this be a good combo or do I stick with a 2500? Any info is appreciated thanks.

Stay with the 2500.You can never have too much tow capacity.

Not a good match. Tundra has only a 4-1/2 or 5 foot bed, making it extremely difficult when maneuvering. Couple that to the low load ratings and it is just not a really good towing platform for fifth wheels.For your trailer one of the new 1/2 tons like the Ford Ecoboost with max towing package might be a good match. But is sure will not give you any room to grow in the near future.

I sure wouldn't do it. A buddy of mine has a new 2014 and although they are very nice rides, the suspension is a bit on the soft side. When he pulls my 4000lb bowfishing boat, you sure know its back there. Plus, isn't the payload around 1600lbs?

Weigh your current setup. Payload is the limit, not tow rating or power. Few half tons have enough payload for 1200 pound minimum of pin weight, a 200 pound 5er receiver in the bed, and a people in the cab.

X2, it may tow 10k under a perfect scenario. It is NOT pulling a 10k travel trailer/fifth wheel without exceeding some of the ratings.

The Tundra certainly has the power, but will probably be too much pin weight to stay within the GVWR. They're good tow vehicles, but not really built for fifth wheels.

I own a 2010 Tundra, 4.6 engine, 4:10 gear, tow rating 8300 lbs. Our trailer Jayco 26' is just under 7000 lbs loaded for our long road trips. I have owned the truck and trailer for four years now and we have driven from Chicago to Disney, Tennessee, Indiana, and Michigan multiple times. I am very impressed with the stability and ease of towing that this truck offers. 70 and 75 mph speed limits no problem, and that is the small V-8. I can only imagine how much stronger the 5.7 is? Gas mileage has been a solid 19 highway (no towing) and 9 ish with the trailer. I hope this helps.

Ram 2500 6.4. Plenty of payload. Can't say for sure but knowing that Tundras can be thirsty I bet the Ram 6.4 does as well or better in the mpg category.

If your 9 year old 2500 is 'tired' from towing your 5th wheel, a Tundra will probably 'expire'.... ;)

Or are you just 'tired' of a 9 year old vehicle?? ;)

I can relate.. I got tired of my 16 year old F150 and got a 2013 to get over it.. :)

I'd keep shopping for something that at least has #2000 payload at the minimum..

Trailer weight isn't your problem but the Tundra, even with it's moderately large rating, still has a fairly light GVWR and that's the area you may find yourself lacking. Depending on the year of the Toyota you may have less payload than just the PIN wieght of your trailer. Just keep this in mind and do the math before purchase because you CAN'T add payload to any truck.
