My truck squats down a lot more in the rear than it used to with the travel trailer hitched up and I'm wondering if the hitch/load bar connection is worn too much and if that could be the possible cause of the truck squatting. It used to sid perfectly level and I haven't changed anything with the setup or the way I load the camper. Could someone look at these pics and give their opinion. You can see that the knob on the load bar is worn and so is the portion of the hitch that the load bar rests in. Thanks.

Yes, I would say it is time to retire your trusty hitch. I would recommend that you replace it with an Equal-i-zer, brand name, hitch. Find your tongue weight and go to the Equal-i-zer web site to find the size of bars you need. Equal-i-zer's hitches have 4-point sway control built into the hitch.Bob

Yep, it's given it's all. Shop around, there are some great new (and superior) designs in WDH systems these days.

I would just replace the hitch head and the trunnions bar ends. Check out Etrailer for the best prices. I would buy a standard Eaz-lift replacement hitch for around 200$ online. Moving to a round bar hitch may cause your ride to improve as well. Check PPL Motorhomes for this. Also, ya need to grease the contact points for future reference. I just use heavy grease. I prefer the standard weight distribution hitch over the Equal-I-zer and the Dual-Cam because of parts availability (any mom and pop RV store in anywhere USA or Canada will have parts for a standard WD hitch if something happens on the road. If you want to upgrade the hitch then go for the Blue Ox Sway pro for about $550.00 or go for the big daddy Hensley Arrow.Thanks!Jeremiah

Looks like it wore out due to lack of lubrication. no need to replace it though, just readjust and start lubing it. I hope you have been lubing the ball? I use a small amount of wheel bearing grease. I clean it all off after a long trip and then reapply.

Just curious as to why most people are suggesting that its worn out and needs replacing? Not trying to throw mud on anyone's comments, but my hitch and WD bars look somewhat similar, and I don't think that they're too worn out.Like I said...just curious as to the reasoning.

I agree that the amount of wear shown would not be a factory in the tail of the tow vehicle sagging. Just my opinion, but I don't see the truck springs as a critical part of this discussion, at least as the combinations sits at rest. Moving the chains back to 5 or 6 links to allow for adjustment, adjusting the hitch height by changing the head angle and/or moving to a different hole on the shank and the pull up chains will level out the truck. That being said, weaker springs may allow for more bounce on rough roads.

I do indeed plan to fix my springs if I can determine for shure that is the issue. However, this worn hitch issue is a new discovery from my camping trip last weekend. That's why I'm now asking about it.

Maybe I made a mistake, I thought one of the top trunnion seats in the WD hitch head were broke. One of the tabs.

But viewing on iphone isn't always the best.

Other adjustments might be changing hitch head angle or position on stinger…. But if you tightened the chains a link already and didn’t see a difference, it is most likely the truck springs getting weaker, or you are loading different…

I don’t believe the hitch is worn out…

Remember if you change the head angle you need to torque the bolts to 300 ft. pd.

I would only be concerned if it were deformed, bent or stressed in any way. Maybe you only need an adjustment.
