Sounds like you weren't towing at the time… good thing!
A blow out like that is #1 on my oh-crud-list. I often think about how I would handle the situation, especially while towing or driving on twisty mountain roads we have here in NoCal. I'm fortunate (knock on wood) to never have had the experience, but the knowledge that it can occur keeps me extra vigilant about truck maintenance, and tire pressure in particular.
Would you care to share some more details about your experience, the conditions, and what happened? Were the tires at 80psi? How fast were you going? How many miles were on those tires? How much weight was on the rear axle? Were there any symptoms before the tire came apart (e.g. low pressure, wandering, noise)? Do you think you may have hit something on the road… or??
