Yup.
In my case I came from a toyhauler. I was 17-18k combined going down the road. Truck did fine, stopped fine is rated to tow that weight.
Enter the TC. Found my weak link (tires and wheels), made improvements there and address the suspension. Done and truck works great.
You will find similar satisfaction if you love your truck (you should KR's are NICE) and want to keep it. If you were looking at a huge Host or EC with triple slides...I wouldn't be in your side. IMHO, your being very reasonable in your TC choice.
FYI....I have three kids and two dogs. Loaded for camping and towing my 4K trailer I was seeing 8200 lbs on my rear axle. Now I do have a heavier truck than you and in shortbed configuration the TC puts all the weight on my rear...it out me into 19.5's.
I think if you don't have a large family and don't tow, you will be spot on with your wheels/tires.
