Jayco vs Dutchmen vs Keystone

Trying to narrow down my search. The floorplans and options are all similar. I am looking for information on real world warranty work, build quality, odd ball issues I should think about. Any help would be appreciated.
  • Our previous tt was a jayco; the current tt is a Keystone. In our models, the build quality is/was similar - we had/have very few problems with either. But, things that we considered basic in the Jayco we found we had to add to the Keystone. Off the top of my head: Jayco came with a tank bypass for winterizing, Keystone did not; Jayco came with easy access to the water heater bypass, Keystone did not; Jayco came with 12V outlet near television, Keystone did not. But, the Keystone came with better ground clearance (axles already flipped) and heat ducts to the water tanks. I would buy products from either again.
  • My first 5er was a Dutchman. Bought new back in about 1999. That was the biggest POS that I have ever had. During the two years we owned it, it seemed to be in for repair more than with me. Our trouble was three fold. Poor build quality, slow parts delivery, and a bad dealer. I won't ever buy one again.

In a new RV purchase, I think you have to assume that it is going to spend some time in the shop, no matter what the manufacture. The overall build quality just does not compare to something like the auto industry. That said, I feel strongly that when purchasing new, the dealer you buy from is at least as important as the brand you choose.

    Good luck.
  • Wow...who can really say. They could all be great and you end up with a lemon. They could all have horrible reps online, and you get a golden nugget.

I'd say, physically walk in each trailer you are considering. You'll start to narrow it down much easier once that happens.
  • Had a Jay flight for 7 years that was great. After a good amount of use not to mention it had seen a fair amount of farmers fields going to races and such, only a few small things wore out or needed mending. Nothing within the first 4 years or so though. My first choice was Jayco, they just didn't have the floorplan we wanted this time.
  • It might also depend on which line of each manufacturer you buy.
  • Have noticed keystone appears more often in action line complaints than the other two. Jayco is somewhat better than average imo and would be my choice with the the two year warranty. Only problem with our jaycos was replacing a propane pigtail and minor cosmetic work on a cabinet.
  • For the same price, quality does sorta follow warranty, which points at Jayco

That being said, none of those are known for top quality.
  • Jayco warranty is 2 years. I believe Dutchman and Keystone are 1 year. Only difference I know.
  • I've owned all three. Jayco first then Keystone. Having said that, my current Keystone has been totally trouble free....

I was living in a 35ft Jayco fifth wheel when my wife brought home the first computer I have ever had and with a creek running through the back yard, came jaycocreek:B
  • There all about equal it appears. They all have different price points, so you need to be careful to compare trailers all in the same price point. But there are others out there that seem to have better quality for the price. For instance Arctic Fox or any of the Northwood brand of trailers for that matter would probably be better than any of those you listed.
