Ask yourself this... With a 29ft trailer hanging off the back of a Cherokee can I control the load in an emergency or heavy braking situation?
The answer is no... in a GC or Touareg, you should limit your trailer length to 21-23 feet tops, else the tail will wag the dog in the event of emergencies. It's pure physics that are the limiting factor on the length of a SUV wheelbase being so short.
I tow with a 2012 Touareg TDI diesel with the 3.0L motor, 240 HP 406ft lbs of torque. I've pulled a 21 foot 4000 pound travel trailer with mine all over the Rockies and the West Coast, and 21 feet is OK, much more trailer than that, lengthwise with the Touareg SUV's short wheelbase, and you are asking for trouble, and I do use a WD hitch also. Tongue weight is around 420 lbs. Max tow weight is 7700 lbs on the touareg, the unibody construction being a limiting factor.
