Lot's of great info here. Thank you! I have only had to jump my truck once. I left a 12v cooler plugged in to a lighter that I thought was switched by the ignition.
Since I carry jumpers anyway I want to build a high quality set with better pliable wire that is easier to pack tight and take up less space. If/when I get around to it I will post a picture. I like making my own cables for batteries etc. because I can make the lengths exact and build a better product for less money. High quality cable and smaller clamps will take up less space for something seldom needed.
We have installed a solar system which so far seems to work pretty well, but always good to have a plan B to protect batteries from low voltage. Even in marginal light they pull 8-10 amps so plan C would be just to shut off all power and let the solar charge and top off. Also considering adding one additional panel that would give us 560 watts total.
We have decided to go without a generator. The stock propane one was too noisy and we never used it. 5 hours on the meter. No joke. 2006 camper. I do have a whisper genset
that we could pack but given our past trips we managed fine even without one or solar, but we were hard on the batteries.
NRALIFR and cedillas, great reports. These mods look like a good way to go if I need more power than the solar delivers I may bug you for some help although I have a pretty good grasp on what you did.
One additional question. Has anyone installed a battery low voltage disconnect like this?
